The Pittsburgh Pirates, who are off to a surprising hot start to the 2024 season, acquired Bart from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for right-handed pitcher Austin Strickland, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.
The Pirates land the former top draft pick after the Giants’ decided to DFA Bart.
Bart slashed .219/.288/.335 in 457 at-bats for San Francisco through his first four seasons since making his major league debut in 2020, adding in 11 home runs, 16 doubles, two triples and 38 runs batted in while striking out 178 times.
Bart, 27, has bounced between the Giants major league roster and their Triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats where Bart hit .274 to go with 17 home runs, 78 RBI and 157 strikeouts.
The Pirates may have some work to do to get Bart to improve at the plate, but his defense is reliable and he will now have another chance at the big league level.
