The Phoenix Suns have widely been expected to explore sing-and-trade deals with free agent center Deandre Ayton following a very disappointing and shocking end to their magnificent season, which saw Ayton benched and get into it with head coach Monty Williams.
Now, it seems that the Suns haven’t fully turned the page on Ayton, as general manager James Jones says that the team plans on keeping the group together.
“Nothing has changed on our end,” Jones said, according to the Arizona Republic. “We haven’t said anything different. DA remains a huge part of what we do and he’s a free agent. So we’ll talk about free agency when that time comes, but that hasn’t changed. I think you hear his teammates. They echo the same sentiment that we have. This team is a really good team and we’re going to keep it together.”
Ayton’s current teammate Mikal Bridges recently said he wants Ayton to stay with the Suns.
“Of course, that’s my guy,” Bridges said. “That’s my best friend. Definitely don’t want him going anywhere else.”
