Last season it seemed inevitable that the Miami Dolphins would work out a trade with the Houston Texans for franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson, and a deal seemed to be close to crossing the finish line just ahead of the trade deadline, but failed to come to fruition due to Watson’s legal issues.
Now, it seems the Dolphins won’t be pursuing Watson at all.
Watson, who requested a trade from the Texans in January 2021, faces 22 lawsuits alleging sexual assault or inappropriate behavior, and those issues remain as the Texans enter an offseason where moving Watson will be a priority.
“Mike [McDaniel] and his staff have put in a lot of work and studied a lot of Tua [Tagovailoa], and they feel good about his developmental upside and what he can be and how he fits in the offense,” Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said. “I think we’re good with Tua.”
The Dolphins are moving forward with developing Tua, and are poised for a big offseason with plenty of cap space available to attract free agents, and draft capital to make moves to improve the roster.
