The New Orleans Pelicans and star forward Zion Williamson have agreed to a five-year max contract extension that will be worth up to $231 million, according to The Athletic and Stadium’s Shams Charania.
The deal, which will take Williamson through the 2027-2028 season, is expected to include protections that both sides were sorting through overnight and will finalize, sources said, according to the report.
Williamson, who has been plagued with injuries throughout his short career, was eligible for a rookie contract extension after the 2021-22 season and it was widely believed that the two sides were highly motivated to lock in a new long-term commitment.
Williamson missed the entire 2021-2022 season following a setback while rehabbing his surgically repaired right foot.
