Vacaville High School (CA) senior running back Daniel Wright announced his top 10 schools August 14 and Utah, Notre Dame, California, and others made the cut.
Daniel Wright is planning to graduate high school early and be ready to play spring football with the program he commits to. He will make his commitment decision the first week of November (week 10 vs Will C Wood Wildcats). Below is the complete list in no particular order:
- Arizona Wildcats
- California Golden Bears
- LSU Tigers
- Michigan Wolverines
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish
- Ohio State Buckeyes
- Oregon Ducks
- UCLA Bruins
- Utah Utes
- Washington Huskies
The Michigan Wolverines, Oregon Ducks, LSU Tigers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish are on his list for official visits and he is leaving his fifth slot open for a school outside of his top 10 that really impresses him.
In 2015, the 5’10, 192 pound running back recorded 139 carries, 1,259 yards (9.1 yards per carry), and 15 touchdowns with six 100 yard games. The kid is fast, elusive and can get up the field and burst through running lanes in a blink of an eye. His junior highlight film shows it.
Wright is very thankful for his team, community, family and most importantly God. Without Him, he says, none of what he has been able to would be possible. All of those things make him who he is he said.
“I don’t want people to ever praise me on the field because I’m just doing my job,” Wright said.
He wants to lead his team to a state championship. That is his one goal.
“The stats and everything will fall after that, because those are important to me, my team and the record is what’s important on that field.”
He is also going to be visiting UC Davis this week and he recalled the excitement of receiving a letter from the school. His mother was the one who informed him about it. It was not a scholarship from the program but that could still happen if they like what they see from him as a senior.
“I can just tell from the tone of her voice that she is a very proud mother, I give her and my family all my thanks because I do this for them,” he said.
What Wright likes about UC Davis is their academics. Even though he has other schools on his radar, he knows that football will come to an end one day.
“I’d like to check it out and see what they have to offer because at the end of the day, my education is what will take me places in life and leave long term success, not what I do on the field.”
Can Daniel Wright reach 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns running the ball this season? He has all the potential to do just that. Off the field, it’s clear, that he will go places because he’s grounded in faith and family values. If you want to read more about him see his Sports Rants profile here.
