The Houston Texans have signed veteran running back Cam Akers, according to ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime.
Akers will now join a deep running back room that is led by former Cincinnati Bengals Pro Bowler Joe Mixon, who was acquired via trade back in March and then signed to a three-year, $27 million contract extension.
The Texans also have veteran Dameon Pierce, who has amassed 1,355 yards during his first two seasons.
Akers, who is coming off a torn Achilles tendon that he suffered back in Week 9 as he was playing for the Minnesota Vikings. Akers had torn his left Achilles during the 2021 season when he was playing for the Los Angeles Rams.
Akers would return later that season to help the Rams on their run to the Super Bowl, clocking 172 yards over four playoff games.
