Former Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni is reuniting with his former MVP player Steve Nash, by joining Nash’s coaching staff with the Brooklyn Nets.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, D’Antoni is finalizing a deal to become an assistant coach with the Nets, and will be hired alongside well-regarded assistant Ime Udoka, who spent seven of the past eight seasons on Gregg Popovich’s staff with the San Antonio Spurs.
The coaching staff of Nash in Brooklyn also includes associate head coach Jacque Vaughn, who served as the interim coach following the firing of Kenny Atkinson last season.
D’Antoni, 69, coached Nash during their time together with the Phoenix Suns (2004-2008) and again with the Los Angeles Lakers (2012-2014).
D’Antoni was 217-101 in his four seasons as Rockets coach, and is a two-time NBA Coach of the Year.
