Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who currently leads the nation in passing yards, has announced that he will be returning to the team for the 2023 season, according to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.
Penix posted the following on social media: “As I look back on this special season we had, I realized there were so many great moments and things to celebrate, but I KNOW for sure there is so much more out there for this team and the job is still not finished. I can’t wait to be back playing in Husky Stadium for the 2023 season!”
Penix began his college football career at Indiana and played under Kalen DeBoer in 2019 before transferring to Washington and rejoining him after the 2021 season.
Penix is just the second Washington player to surpass 4,000 passing yards in a single season and needs just 105 yards in the bowl game to set Washington’s single-season passing record, a very achievable milestone.
During DeBoer’s first year, the Huskies posted a 10-2 record and are set to face Texas in the Valero Alamo Bowl on December 29th.
