Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor suffered an accidental punctured lung at the hands of the Chargers’ team doctor prior to Sunday’s game when administering a pain-killing shot, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The shot was being administered to Taylor so that he could play with broken ribs as the Chargers took on the Kansas City Chiefs.
Taylor, 31, could not play and the Chargers instead turned to rookie Justin Herbert, who is also slated to start against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Per Schefter, the NFLPA is looking into the matter.
According to Chargers’ head coach Anthony Lynn, Taylor will take back the starting role upon his return.
