Former NFL quarterback Anthony Wright was shot several times during a dispute with his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, according to The Concord Police Department in North Carolina.
Wright, 43, allegedly got into an argument with the ex-boyfriend of his current girlfriend over a custody situation involving a minor child on Monday night.
Police say that Wright was shot multiple times and was immediately rushed to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.
Per the police, Wright is currently in stable condition.
The shooter has been identified as William “Willie” Moses Hooker Jr., and he is currently wanted for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with the intent to kill.
Police said the incident started with a “verbal altercation” in Concord, North Carolina in which Wright began arguing with Hooker as he was dropping off his daughter.
Wright, 43, last played in the NFL in 2007 when he won a Super Bowl championship as a backup quarterback for the New York Giants.
Wright also played for teams such as the Dallas Cowboys and the Baltimore Ravens throughout his career.
