Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay sent a strong message to NFL teams that may think about contacting former Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, who ended his stellar career in a shocking retirement a few years ago.
Don’t.
“If any NFL team attempted to contact Andrew Luck (or any associate of him) … to play for their Franchise — it would be a clear violation of the League’s Tampering Policy,” Irsay said in a post on Twitter.
The message comes following a report by ESPN over the weekend that stated that the Washington Commanders made attempts in 2022 to learn whether Luck had any interest in returning to the NFL, but it is unclear whom the Commanders had contact with regarding Luck.
Luck, 33, retired back in 2019 with three years remaining on his deal, which means he still remains with the Colts. Luck’s contract tolled after his departure, meaning that if Luck ever elects to return to the NFL, the Colts would own his playing rights.
For what it’s worth, Luck has consistently states that he has no intentions of returning to the NFL.
