Looking for a sleeper quarterback to draft? Keep your eyes on Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr who may be on the verge of having one of the best seasons of his career.
We aren’t alone in thinking Carr could be heading into a great season, even for Fantasy Football, NFL.com’s Adam Rank believes the same.
While Carr ended last season being booed by Raiders fans, he could end 2020 being cheered by fantasy owners, thanks to a revamped offense.
Let’s be honest, Carr’s 2019 season was nothing to sneeze at, even from a fantasy football standpoint, throwing for a career-high 4,054 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions, and it was the second consecutive season that Carr passed the 4,000 yard passing mark.
This year, Carr will again have running back Josh Jacobs to help the offense, and take pressure off the passing game. Additionally, the Raiders boasted one of the NFL’s best units in 2020, particularly in passing plays.
Carr will also have an improved Darren Waller and rookie Henry Ruggs III to throw to.
While the Raiders have done some work to improve their defense, they still have a ways to go.
Consider this: the Raiders have allowed 26.0 points per game since Carr was selected 36th overall in the 2014 NFL Draft, which is the second most in the NFL, meaning that Carr has had to revert to a passing attack in an effort to climb the Raiders back into games.
That won’t change overnight.
Carr also has Marcus Mariota backing him up. While it’s hard to see Mariota becoming 2020’s Ryan Tannehill, it is still going to bring more competition than Carr has seen, perhaps in his career.
So, Carr could be good candidate to surpass 4,500 yards this season. Add his name to your early board.
