As the San Francisco 49ers continue to scour the trade market to find a new home for veteran signal caller Jimmy Garoppolo, they are going to great lengths to phase Garoppolo out of the team’s activities during training camp this summer.
According to NBC Sports’ Peter King, Garoppolo hasn’t been attending meetings and doesn’t even have a playbook. But that’s not all.
“When the other 89 men on the San Francisco roster are practicing outside, Garoppolo is usually inside, or on his way home,” King wrote. “I heard he does not have a playbook, does not attend quarterback or team meetings and barely knows new quarterbacks coach Brian Griese.”
If the season were to start today, Garoppolo would be the backup to Trey Lance, but that obviously isn’t the ideal situation for Garoppolo or the 49ers. Garoppolo’s contract may curb some interest, but as training camp, and the preseason, play out it seems that Garoppolo is closing in on finding a new team.
