The Miami Dolphins fired head coach Brian Flores on Monday in a move that was one of the most surprising developments following the conclusion of the 2021 regular season where Miami defeated the New England Patriots.
General manager Chris Grier will remain with the team in his current role, which will lead to questions as to if Grier is the right man to guide this team as Grier has had a mediocre draft record despite a treasure trove of draft picks.
Flores posted a 24-25 record over his three seasons with the team, but started the 2021 season 1-7 before finishing 9-8 and failing to make the playoffs. Grier’s coaching staff proved incapable of developing talent, and his odd decision to have a two offensive coordinators contributed to a lackluster offense.
It is also likely that the Dolphins will move on from Tua Tagovailoa, who has showed very little to prove he is the franchise quarterback the organization hoped he would be when they drafted him with the 5th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, one pick ahead of the Los Angeles Chargers who selected Justin Herbert.
