Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook will not play this Sunday against the Detroit Lions in Week 17 as he flying home to Miami due to the death of his father, James, according to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.
James suddenly passed away at the age of 46, and now Dalvin is heading to his hometown to be with his family during this time. James Cook had reportedly been suffering from diabetes related issues.
Cook will not be able to return to the Vikings in time to undergo the daily COVID-19 testing necessary for him to be able to play on Sunday.
Despite the Vikings being eliminated from the playoffs and posting a 6-9 record, Cook has been stellar all season, rushing for a career-high 1,557 yards this season.
