The Dallas Cowboys will be looking for a new offensive coordinator as Kellen Moore will not return as the Cowboys offensive coordinator next season, ending a four-year run that saw the offense rank inside the top 10 three times, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.
In an official statement issued on Sunday, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said the Cowboys and Moore reached a “mutual decision to part ways” following the end-of-season review process and additional discussion.
“I want to thank Kellen for his deep commitment, hard work and dedication that were a core part of his time with the Cowboys,” McCarthy said in the statement. “The production of our offense and his mentorship of Dak were at the center of Kellen’s impact, and we are grateful for his tenure and leadership.”
If McCarthy takes over play calling duties he will be the fist Cowboys head coach to call plays since Jason Garrett did back in 2012. Bill Callahan called plays in 2013, followed by Scott Linehan from 2014 to 2018 prior to Moore taking over.
Moore’s name has popped up among the head coaching job openings, and he interviewed for the Carolina Panthers head coaching gig last week that was eventually given to former Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich.
In early 2022, Moore was a finalist for the head coaching job with the Miami Dolphins that ultimately went to Mike McDaniel.
The Los Angeles Chargers recently requested permission to speak with Moore about their offensive coordinator opening.
