Every year NFL fans have overreactions to that start of the season. We know not everything it’s a long season and that things change quickly, however, that doesn’t stop anyone.
Two weeks into the NFL season and here are five overreactions that may or may not hold up as the season goes on.
- Derek Carr is an MVP candidate: Derek Carr has played out of his mind in the first two weeks of the season. The main reason the Raiders are 2-0 is because of Carr’s great play against two of the better defenses in the NFL. He has thrown for 817 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception (on a dropped pass). Against the Ravens, Carr kept bringing the Raiders back and forced the game into overtime. He keeps his play, and the Raiders keep winning up he’ll be in the MVP consideration. However, it’s best to wait and see what he does the next few games before making the assumption
- Josh Allen should not have gotten the extension: Josh Allen became the second-highest-paid player in the NFL during training camp. However, judging by his play for the first two weeks, you wouldn’t know it. Allen has thrown for 449 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in his first two games. The Steelers shut down Allen and the offense in the second half of their week one match-up. Against the Dolphins, he passed for less than 200 yards in the shutout win. In week three, Allen will have a chance to show he belongs with the elite against Washington and their front four. If he plays well against them, then there will not be any question of why he got the extension.
- The Broncos and Panthers are contenders: The two surprise 2-0 teams are the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos. Both had question marks going into the season, and both have answered every single one. Sam Darnold and Teddy Bridgewater have done a great job leading their teams so far. However, are they going to fighting for a playoff spot till the end, or will they struggle down the line? Fans will not know until the games are played.
- Zach Wilson and Trevor Lawrence are busts: Lawrence and Wilson went 1-2 in the 2021 NFL draft. Both started day one for the Jaguars and Jets, respectively. Both have struggled with throwing interceptions. Wilson and Lawrence have thrown five in the first two games. Wilson had four passes picked off against New England in week two. The question is being asked if the two quarterbacks can turn it around. However, fans will not figure out the answer for the next few years. They will either turn it around or be cut, but fans won’t know until it happens.
- The NFC North is the worst division: Through the first two weeks, teams in the NFC North are a combined 2-6. That’s not good. Green Bay got destroyed by the Saints but rebounded against the Lions. The Bears survived against the Bengals after losing by 20 to the Rams. The Lions tried to come back against the 49ers, then got shut out in the second half by the Packers. And the Vikings have had the worst luck in their two losses to the Bengals and Cardinals. There’s still time for this division to turn it around. By the end of the season, fans most likely will not be calling this the worst division in 2021.
