Los Angeles Chargers veteran running back Austin Ekeler has joined the ranks of millions of twitch streamers who are creating content on the immensely popular platform.
Ekeler is looking for a new way to engage and interact with fans during the COVID-19 pandemic, and ahead of the 2020 NFL season and as turned to his own channel as a creative way to do so.
Earlier this month, Ekeler used his channel to post a number of workouts as part of his fitness streams which have seen the back workout with teammates such as rookie quarterback Justin Herbert as well as fellow running backs Justin Jackson, Joshua Kelley and Derrick Gore.
“As the interaction (people typing in the chat) became more common, asking questions, that’s where I started to turn my vision to ‘hey, I want to get rid of the middle man and let’s actually just talk and interact.’ And I want to continue to do it during the season too,” Ekeler said, according to The Esports Observer.
Twitch has been evolving and thriving during the pandemic, with record viewership numbers, and a further expansion into sports, music, and more.
It’s clear that the popularity of Twitch won’t be slowing down anytime soon, and that more celebrities and athletes are launching their own twitch channels to join the fray.
