Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson says he has not decided if either Jalen Hurts or Carson Wentz will make the start at quarterback for the team when they take the field against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Pederson talked about the team’s thinking during an appearance on 94.1 WIP on Monday, and also heaped praise on the performance of the rookie Hurts in his first career start, a game that saw the Eagles upset that New Orleans Saints and their top-ranked defense.
“I’m going to take a look at [the Saints film]. I’m going to look at a lot of different things before I make that determination this week,” Pederson said (h/t ESPN’s Tim McManus).
While Pederson seems to be keeping plans vague, it appears that there is no decision to be made. According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the team will indeed stick with Hurts barring injury or a disastrous play for the remainder of the season.
Hurts certainly looked capable on Sunday, throwing for 167 yards and a touchdown while adding 106 yards rushing on the ground.
“Going back and watching it this morning, there were some really, really good plays. He played well,” Pederson said. “He managed the team. He did everything we asked him to do. He played smart, he played physical with the run.”
