The New York Mets will be looking for a new manager without seeing their newest manager manage a single game, as Carlos Beltran has stepped down from his manager position due to his involvement in the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal that has rocked MLB, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Beltran becomes the third manager to lose his job as part of the fallout, as the Boston Red Sox parted with manager Alex Cora, and the Astros fired AJ Hinch when the punishment was initially announced.
Beltran was a player with the Astros, winning a World Series title with the team, when the cheating took place, but has since retired from playing and was hired as the Mets’ manager earlier this offseason.
Per reports, Beltran told the Mets that it was best that he stepped down as manager.
Now, all three teams will be embarking on finding a new manager.
