New York Yankees superstar outfielder Aaron Judge turned down a $213.5 million contract offer from the Yankees this offseason and is making a similar bet on himself in arbitration as he has reportedly declined a $19 million offer from the team, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.
Judge is in the midst of his best career season, and it slated to become a free agent this fall, and is now banking on a victory in arbitration that officials in both management and the union believe will alter the financial landscape players in the future.
The Yankees offered Judge the contract prior to the regular season, and Judge declined. The gamble was notable as the biggest concern for the Yankees when it came to Judge was his inability to stay healthy. Judge missed 142 games in the 2018-2020 seasons.
However, when Judge is on the field he is among the best players in the majors and is putting on another spectacular season that has him the early favorite to win MVP honors and the Yankees poised for a run at a World Series championship.
