Cincinnati Reds outfielder Tommy Phan isn’t happy about a collision between Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson and San Diego Padres slugger Luke Voit that occurred as Voit was trying to score at home plate during the Padres 6-2 victory over the Reds on Tuesday.
Voit’s slide has been met with criticism as there is debate over if Voit was intentionally trying to hurt Stephenson, who surprisingly was able to hold on to the ball despite the intense impact from the collision. But most seem to believe the play was dirty.
“The way his hands hit him, it was dirty as (expletive),” Pham said, according to Yahoo Sports. “I don’t like it at all. The way his hands hit him in the face, it was dirty. If Luke wants to settle it, I get down really well. Anything, Muay Thai, whatever. I’ve got a (gym) owner here who will let me use his facility. So, (expletive) ’em.”
The Reds take on the Padres again on Wednesday afternoon, so it will be interesting to see if there is any retaliation.
