Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale officially began hi rehab assignment on Thursday by starting a game in the Florida Complex League where he threw three scoreless innings, striking out 5 batters while allowing only 4 hits.
The game marked the first game Sale played in since August 13th, 2019 when he was officially shut down due to elbow inflammation but did not end up undergoing Tommy John surgery initially. Sale did tried to rehab the injury but eventually underwent Tommy John surgery in March 2020, which shut him down the entire season.
While Sale did not have a strong 2019 season, pitching to the tune of a career-worst 4.40 ERA, he would be a major boost to the Boston rotation if he can make himself back to the majors later this season.
