The New York Mets and superstar infielder Francisco Lindor will reportedly explore contract extension talks “in earnest” this week, according to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman.
Lindor, who was acquired via trade from the Cleveland Indians during the offseason, has set a contract extension deadline of Opening Day. With Lindor set to hit free agency next winter, the Mets are now focusing on working out a long-term deal to keep him with the Mets for years to come.
Lindor is expected to fetch a lucrative, long-term deal, whether it’s in a contract extension with the Mets, or from another team on the free agent market.
