The Chicago Cubs have acquired reliever Tyson Miller from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for minor league infielder Jake Slaughter, who was designated for assignment last week, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Miller will make his way back to the Cubs, who drafted him during the fourth round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
The Cubs would lose Miller on waivers to the Texas Rangers which would start Miller’s nomadic journey around the league, where he would play for five teams but fail to clock 15 innings for any of them.
Miller played for three teams last season alone – the New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers and the Los Angeles Dodgers before clearing waivers in September. Miller would ink a non-roster deal with Seattle ahead of the 2024 season and would be called up two weeks into the 2024 season.
Slaughter, 27, has posted a .297/.392/.486 slash line over 130 plate appearances for the Cubs’ top affiliate in Iowa.
