While the Chicago Cubs may be trading away star Kris Bryant it appears that they are trying to work out contract extensions with shortstop Javier Baez and veteran first baseman Anthony Rizzo, according to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman.
The Cubs have been unable to work out long-term deals with Baez or Rizzo over the past few seasons, so there is some heavy doubt that they will be able to do so ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline where they are expected to be sellers.
The Cubs reportedly offered Rizzo a five-year, $70 million contract extension back in Spring Training this year.
Baez is currently playing out his final arbitration year and earning $11.6 million this season.
