The New York Yankees desperately needed to get in the win column as they have been on a nine-game losing streak that has not been seen in the Bronx in over four decades and as they clutch to very slim playoff hopes.
Yankees MVP slugger Aaron Judge had a career game to ensure that the Yankees avoided their worst skid sine 1913.
Judge homered three times and tied his career high with six RBIs in a performance that led the team, almost all by himself, to a 9-1 victory over the Washington Nationals to snap their first nine-game losing stream in 41 years.
“We’ve kind of been waiting for that for a long time,” Yankees catcher Kyle Higashioka said (h/t ESPN). “Now we have nothing to hold over his head.”
Per ESPN, Judge became the third player in MLB history to hit three home runs in a win that snapped his team’s losing streak of at least nine games, joining Freddie Patek (1980) and Eddie Mathews (1952) and he is also the first Yankees player with three home runs including a grand slam in a game since Alex Rodriguez accomplished the feat back on April 26th, 2005.
The Yankees have been a punching bag on every sports social media platform as frustrated fans have seen the team play some of the worst baseball in years throughout the course of a season that is likely to end without a playoff appearance.
For one night, Judge gave Yankee fans something to celebrate.
