Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts is opening up about the shocking trade in 2020 that sent him from the Boston Red Sox to the Dodgers in a move that Betts believes was the best thing that could have happened to his career.
When news broke that February, it certainly sent social media into a frenzy, particularly Red Sox fans who were upset that the organization decided to trade a way a beloved superstar in what essentially turned out to be a salary dump.
The move made headlines and was the focal point of reporting by MLB journalists and was a main topic of analysis from sports media personalities within Boston and around the MLB news world as well.
Betts, 30, is enjoying success in Los Angeles after inking a 12-year, $365 million extension with the team.
“Looking back at it, probably. But I don’t know what life would have looked like had I stayed there. But the things I have been able to do in L.A. have been very much a blessing to myself, my kids, and my family,” Betts said, according to the Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham.
Betts seemed to only have one negative regarding his new deal, which is that his take-home pay hasn’t come close to what he makes in his base salary.
“I can’t say anything negative about it except the taxes,” Betts stated.
