New York Yankees young slugger Jasson Domínguez, who has earned the nickname ‘The Martian’ prior to debuting in the majors, already has the league buzzing following his first 3 games in the majors and another impressive homerun.
Domínguez, 20, hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the sixth inning to help the Yankees to a 6-1 win over the Houston Astros and helped the Yankees complete their three-game sweep since taking three games against Kansas City from July 21-23rd.
The Yankees also swept the Astros for the first time since September 2013.
“He’s lived up to every ounce of hype that I’ve heard,” Yankees pitcher Michael King said of Dominguez, according to ESPN. “I heard he was otherworldly and he comes out here and just dominates.”
The young phenom also made history as Domínguez is the youngest player in franchise history to homer twice in his first three games and just the fourth Yankees hitter to do it, joining Yankees such as current teammate Aaron Judge (2016), Joe Lefebvre (1980) and Yogi Berra (1946).
“When he goes up to the plate, there’s not a lot of anxiety. He plays the game with ease,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said.
It is a silver lining for an otherwise brutal season for the Yankees, who have been the subject of criticism among fans, MLB journalists, sports media, and sports talk podcasts as well.
“Obviously, nothing’s gone how we wanted it to this year,” Boone said. “But we’re playing for a lot in there, and never know what can happen. We just want to go out and play our best baseball and hopefully make some noise this month. And who knows?”
