The New York Giants will have to wait until after the season to pick up contract negotiations with star running back Saquon Barkley as the two sides were unable to work out a new deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Barkley and the Giants were attempting to get a new deal done during the Giants bye week last week.
Giants general manager Joe Schoen previously had stated that the deadline for the Giants to complete a deal with Barkley was last Monday, but without a new deal in place the two sides will focus on the remainder of the season.
Barkley has rushed for 779 yards and five touchdowns, chipping in 28 receptions for 189 yards to fuel the Giants 6-2 start this season.
