If any team wants to inquire about the availability of New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold, general manager Joe Douglas is making it known he will be ready to pick up the phone, according to SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano.
While Douglas praised Darnold’s talent, he also admitted he is on the table for interested teams. It’s a far different tone from over a year ago, when Douglas was saying that Darnold was untouchable.
“I will answer the call, if it’s made,” Douglas said regarding Darnold’s availability in trade. Sam is, we think, a dynamic playmaker in this league with dynamic talent … But if calls are made, I will answer them.”
And while the Jets have plenty of options, armed with cap space and the #2 overall pick, they won’t be rushed into making a final decision regarding the quarterback situation, letting things play out.
“We feel like [there’s no] hard timeline in the immediate future to make a decision,” Douglas said.
