Twitch is set to eclipse a previous forecast regarding viewership for 2020, as they are now projected to see a growth of 26.2%, faster than expected, according to Business Insider.
Twitch has seen historic growth for twitch channels, their branding, viewership, and content variety in 2020, and was initially expected to reach 37.5 million viewers in the US this year, according to StreamElements and Arsenal.gg.
Now, that projection is 41.5 million, which represent a 26.2% increase from the 32.9 million US viewers that Twitch had last year.
The report goes on to point out the growth in non-gaming content on the streaming platform, highlighted by the Music and Performing Arts category, which quadrupled its viewership (385%) from April 2019 to April 2020.
Furthermore, the Just Chatting category expanded by 138% over the same period of time.
Twitch has thrived during quarantine, and it is widely expected that viewership numbers will dip in 2021, as restrictions are lifted. Meaning that the growth of twitch streams will curve in 2021.
