The Boston Celtics were supposed to be riding high following their impressive run to the NBA Finals last season, and although they came up short against the Golden State Warriors, the upcoming season was full of both promise and excitement.
But now, the Celtics have a new drama to deal with, and it could cost them their head coach Ime Udoka.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Udoka is facing disciplinary action that is expected to include a significant suspension for his role in a consensual intimate relationship with a woman who is a member of the franchise’s staff.
Per the report, the relationship was considered a violation of the organization’s guidelines, and a decision on the length of that suspension is expected to come as soon as Thursday, and while no final decision has been made, internal discussions have included scenarios that would keep Udoka out for the entire season.
Despite the circumstances, it is believed that Udoka’s job is not in jeopardy.
Udoka, 45, went 51-31 last season and led the Celtics to the Finals in his first season as a head coach in the NBA.
