The Phoenix Suns are looking to build off of their impressive 8-0 record in the bubble and take advantage of their young, talented roster by discussing a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder for star point guard Chris Paul, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst and Tim Bontemps.
While talks have been ongoing, no deal is reportedly imminent, but negotiations have been gaining traction as the NBA prepares for the start of their 2020-2021 season in December.
The Suns boast a promising young roster led by superstar Devin Booker and young big man Deandre Ayton, who has steadily improved.
With a near completion of the first phase of a $230 million renovation of Talking Stick Resort Arena, and the pending opening of their new, state-of-the-art, $45 million practice facility this month, the Suns are extra motivated to ascend in the league.
Phoenix may also have over $20 million in salary-cap space as they head into the transaction season, which would allow them to seek out free agents even after a potential Paul trade.
Paul has raved about Suns head coach Monty Williams, who coached Paul during their time together with the New Orleans Hornets from 2010 through 2011.
