The Pittsburgh Steelers playoff hopes took a bit of a gut punch on Sunday when quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered an injury to his right ankle during Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals that is expected to have him sidelined “a couple weeks”, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Pickett sustained the injury midway through the second quarter and he was replaced by backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky who is now expected to start for the Steelers for their Thursday night tilt against the New England Patriots.
Trubisky, who took over for Pickett, finished the game 11-of-17 for 117 yards and a touchdown while also fumbling the ball once.
Pickett suffered the injury when he kept the ball and scrambled, diving for the end zone on third down near the goal line. Cardinals defensive lineman Jonathan Ledbetter dove to tackle Pickett from behind, which apparently led to the injury.
“We went down, we finished down in the red zone,” Trubisky said of the loss. “The guys aren’t giving up towards the end. So when it gets sloppy like that, everyone stuck together. We put a drive together, put some points on. So I think you look at that drive, and you try to take away some positives.
“But for me it’s simple. We got to clean up the non-talent issues, getting lined up the penalties and just playing 11 guys that as one.”
