Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch was helped off the court late in the Wolves’ series clinching victory over the Phoenix Suns and suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee during a sideline collision, according to ESPN’s Baxter Holmes.
The collision occurred with 1:40 left in the fourth quarter when Wolves point guard Mike Conley was forced out of bounds by Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker while driving down the court, a play that resulted in a foul on Booker.
Conley then collided with Finch who immediately fell to the floor holding his right knee.
The Timberwolves would later confirm that Finch ruptured his patellar tendon.
“He’s obviously in good spirits and so are the guys,” Wolves assistant coach Micah Nori said. “Everybody has their role, everybody has each other’s back,” Nori said. “I know it sounds corny, but it’s just next man up, even with the coaching staff.”
