As the NFL trade deadline approached earlier this month, there were rumors that the Houston Texans were looking to deal veteran wide receiver Will Fuller, but were unable to work out a deal. Had a trade gone threw, their franchise quarterback made it clear he wouldn’t have been happy.
“It would have been hell if they would have did that, for sure,” Watson said, according to ESPN’s Sarah Barshop. “Honestly. I’m glad to continue to play with Will. We’ve been making a lot of big, big plays since I came into this league, [and we’re] going to continue to do that as we continue to go the rest of this year and hopefully the rest of our careers.”
Fuller said “it really sucked” to be “shopped around like that.” Fuller is currently playing on the fifth year option of his contract, and has showcased incredible chemistry with Watson this season.
“Just giving this organization my all, coming to work every day, very unselfish player, do everything they ask, and then, just to be shopped around … I did feel a certain type of way,” Fuller said. “But like I said, I’m happy to be here. I’m happy to play with Deshaun and continue to try to get wins with this organization.”
Fuller is arguably having the best year of his career, collecting 36 catches for 590 yards and six touchdowns for the Texans this season.
Fuller has dealt with injuries throughout his career, but has played in all 8 games for Houston this season, giving everyone a better view of his chemistry with Watson, and what the two are capable of.
Texans interim coach Romeo Crennel said that while the team was listening to offers, they were not going to let Fuller, nor any player, go for “peanuts.”
“I think we saw today why I would only take deluxe nuts for Will Fuller,” Crennel said. “Because he makes tremendous plays, he’s a tremendous athlete, tremendous receiver, and I’m so glad that we have him.”
