The Dallas Cowboys and running back Ezekiel Elliott have agreed to terms on a six-year, $90 million contract extension, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.
Elliott’s new deal includes $50 million in guaranteed money, making it the highest million guaranteed money paid to a running back in league history. The previous record was held by Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley, who received $45 million.
Elliott and the Cowboys have been working at getting a deal done all summer, and the running back missed all of training camp as negotiations played out.
Elliott’s 4,048 rushing yards are the most in the NFL since 2016, and he is the fifth player since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970 to lead the league in rushing twice in his first three seasons.
Elliott also became only the second running back in Cowboys history to notch more than 1,000 yards rushing and over 500 yards receiving in the same season, along with Herschel Walker.
