The Detroit Lions have agreed to terms with franchise quarterback Jared Goff on a four-year, $212 million contract extension that includes $170 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adan Schefter.
With the new deal Goff is now the highest paid player in Lions franchise history.
Additionally, Goff’s $53 million average annual salary now makes him the second highest-paid quarterback in the NFL behind Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow who is at $55 million annually.
Goff, 29, has been a star since arriving in Detroit three seasons ago as part of a trade with the Los Angeles Rams that saw Lions longtime quarterback Matthew Stafford head to Los Angeles where he won a Super Bowl title.
Goff has helped the Lions win 21 games over the course of the last 2 seasons, which is a franchise record for most victories in any two-season span and their 12-win season in 2023 is also tied for the most wins in a season in franchise history, originally set back in 1991.
Goff threw for 4,575 yards with 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions last season for the Lions and has thrown for 12,258 yards and 78 touchdowns with just 27 interceptions during his three seasons in Detroit.
