The New England Patriots are looking to do something that they haven’t normally done during the NFL Draft in a long time – move up in the first round.
According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the Patriots are interested in trading up in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft this week in the hopes of landing Ohio State quarterback prospect Justin Fields.
New England is reportedly among several teams interested in trading up into the Top 10 to land Fields, who has become a hit name to watch as we get closer to draft night.
One team to watch is the Atlanta Falcons, who probably should stay at #4 and take a quarterback to groom to take over for Matt Ryan. The Falcons have reportedly been open to dealing the 4th overall pick which would likely mean any trade making that move would be interested in drafting Fields or either Trey Lance or Mac Jones.
The Patriots currently own the 15th overall pick, so a move up would be costly, especially to #4. However, it would be less expensive to move to the 8th (Carolina Panthers) or 9th (Denver Broncos) pick, and likely still net them one of the Top 5 signal callers in the draft.
