The Arizona Cardinals made a pair of moves to solidify the status of the regime that was a part of leading a once-Super Bowl favorite team to a brutal late season collapse and abysmal showing in the NFC playoffs.
The Cardinals officially extended head coach Kliff Kingsbury and general manager Steve Keim through the 2027 season, according to an official team announcement issued on Wednesday morning.
The Cardinals made the announcement as they engage in a rather public negotiation process with franchise quarterback Kyler Murray, whos is seeking a contract extension now that he is officially eligible.
Kingsbury signed a four-year deal when he was hired in 2019, and was set to enter the final year of that contract prior to the extension.
Keim, who took over general manager duties back in 2013 after working within the organization since 1999, had an extension that was set to bring him through the 2022 season, but now will continue to be a part of the franchise he has been involved in for over two decades.
“The leadership of both Steve and Kliff have been key factors in the team’s turnaround over the last three seasons,” Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill said in a statement. “We are all looking forward to continuing that progress and recognize these two individuals will be a big part of achieving our long-term goals as an organization.”
