The Houston Texans are looking to adjust the contract of veteran running back David Johnson in the hopes of getting some financial relief heading into the offseason, according to the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson.
Johnson’s current contract, which he signed as a member of the Arizona Cardinals, is entering the final year and Johnson is currently scheduled to count $8.5 million against the Texans cap in 2021. Johnson has $2.1 million guaranteed left on his current deal.
While Johnson once again couldn’t play a full season, he was still productive over the 12 games he was available for, notching 1,005 yards from scrimmage and increasing his yards-per-carry from 3.7 during the 2019 season with the Cardinals, to 4.7 for the Texans in 2o20.
Per the report, Johnson would be interested in staying with the Texans for another season but many sports journalists are questioning if the team will secure him in a long-term deal.
