Just a few short weeks ago the Philadelphia Eagles were the toast of the NFL, with the best record in the league and no signs of slowing down.
Fast forward to today and the Eagles are no longer considered a clear-cut Super Bowl favorite following a brutal few weeks that was capped off by Sunday’s shocking loss to the Arizona Cardinals that had sports social media buzzing.
The Eagles have gone 1-4 over their last five games following a 10-1 start to the season.
The Eagles had the easiest closing schedule in the NFL to close out the regular season, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index, and just needed wins over the Cardinals (4-12) and the division rival New York Giants (5-11) to secure an NFC East title for a second consecutive year.
However, the Dallas Cowboys are now in control of the division and only need a Week 18 win over the Washington Commanders to clinch the NFC East which could potentially put the Eagles on the road throughout the playoffs.
“We have to get things fixed,” Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said, according to ESPN’s Tim McManus, “and we have to get them fixed fast.”
The Eagles know what’s ahead of them and what they need to do to turn the tide.
“That’s cool. Whatever we’ve got to do. It’s a position we put ourselves in,” Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham said. “Stay together. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about.”
The Eagles now head to MetLife Stadium to take on the Giants in their regular season finale.
