Minnesota Vikings All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson would prefer to remain playing in Minnesota as the two sides are likely to re-engage in contract negotiations this offseason and Jefferson made that quite clear during a recent interview.
While speaking with Adam Schein of Mad Dog Sports Radio (one of the more popular sports podcasts), Jefferson spoke about his stance.
“I want to break the bank and I want to be a part of an organization that wants me, and to really give me what I deserve” he said during the appearance. “I feel like eventually, the Vikings will do what they need to do to have me in the building, but I don’t really know at this very moment – only time will tell.”
Jefferson and the team had talks about a potential new deal last offseason, but could not reach an agreement. While the Vikings made a late push to finalize a new deal ahead of Week 1 of the regular season, the two sides ultimately agreed to table negotiations until this offseason.
Jefferson, who is set to play on the $19.74 million fifth-year option, is in line to land perhaps the richest contract for a wide receiver in league history.
Jefferson will be just one of the many major decisions the Vikings will have to make this offseason, which includes players such as quarterback Kirk Cousins and defensive edge rusher Danielle Hunter, who are both pending free agents.
