Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon has restructured his contract so that he could remain with the Bengals for the upcoming season, his agent, Peter Schaeffer, informed ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Mixon, who has spent the entirety of his NFL career with the Bengals and is coming off a down season, had a $9.4 million nonguaranteed base salary for this season and represented a $12.8 million hit against the salary cap.
Mixon played in 14 games last season, rushing for 814 yards and 7 touchdowns, missing two games due to a concussion. While the numbers were solid for the 14 games he played, they were a drop off from his Pro Bowl season in 2021 when he rushed for a career-high 1,205 rushing yards.
Mixon, who is facing a misdemeanor aggravated menacing charge that is set for trial in mid-August, was with the team during voluntary and mandatory workouts while he awaits the settlement of his legal situation.
