The New York Yankees ate another loss to the Houston Astros on Thursday night, leaving them in an 0-2 hole against the Astros, who also owned them during the regular season, during their ALCS series.
Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton reacted to the team’s deficit following the game.
“We’ve got to shorten up a little bit and put the ball in play,” Stanton said, according to MLB.com. “You never know what can happen if you put the ball in play.”
Yankees slugger Aaron Judge also chimed in.
“We’ve got a great offense; I think we’ve just got to get back to what has gotten us to this position and what helped us win the division,” Judge said. “If that’s contact, moving guys over, coming up with that big hit — we’ll figure it out and be ready.”
“I think we’re going to go into this off-day, take a step back and take a breath to reflect on what we need to really work on and adjust to get going again,” Yankees catcher Kyle Higashioka said. “I definitely think we could put some more balls in play, me especially. I didn’t even hit the ball tonight.”
The Yankees return to Yankee Stadium on Saturday to host the Astros in Game 3, a crucial game that will be a must-win for the Yankees to get the series back within reach.
“We’ve got to go home and get one,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “It starts with that. We’ve just got to find a way to do a little bit more offensively, but we feel like we can go out there and limit them enough to give us a chance. We certainly feel there’s no one better than Gerrit to hand the ball to and get us right back into this.”
