The New England Patriots are considered unlikely to extend the contract of signal caller Cam Newton during the regular season, despite his impressive return this season, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
Newton, 31, is playing on a one-year, $7.55 million contract that he inked with New England back in June, and he has been worth every penny, and then some.
The Patriots would be smart to see how Newton holds up health wise as the season carries on, especially considering that health concerns are what contributed to his long stay on the free agent market during the offseason.
So far, the Patriots have to be thrilled with Newton’s play, completing 68% of his passes while throwing for 714 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
