USC has fired Head Coach Clay Helton, reported by ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura.
His firing comes less than a week after USC lost to Stanford 42-28 at home. Cornerbacks coach and Associate Head Coach Donte Williams will serve as the Interim Head Coach.
Helton had been the head coach for the Trojans since 2015 after being named the interim after the firing of Steve Sarkisian. He was also the interim for one game in 2013 after Lane Kiffin was fired. During his time as head coach, the team went 46-24, with a 36-13 record against the Pac-12.
Helton had some success as the head coach, which included a number three finish in the AP poll and a Rose Bowl victory in 2016. However, there were also some low moments, like finishing 5-7 in 2018.
With Helton now gone, USC will look to find someone who can help lead them back to one of the best teams in College Football.
