The Las Vegas Raiders will have their superstar running back and NFL rushing champion Josh Jacobs back in the fold as the two sides have agreed to terms on a new, upgraded contract to keep Jacobs in Las Vegas for this season.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Jacobs plans to end his holdout and report back to the team. Jacobs has reportedly been in Las Vegas and is ready to get to work on the upcoming season with the Raiders.
According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the base value of Jacobs’ deal is now $11.8 million, including some per-game roster bonuses, which signals a significant upgrade from the $10.091 million Jacobs was set to earn under the franchise tag.
Jacobs can earn an additional $200K in incentives that would propel the deal to the $12 million max. The new deal will replace the franchise deal and is similar to the deal that the New York Giants agreed to with their star running back Saquon Barkley, as many NFL journalists have pointed out.
Jacobs and his agent, Chad Wiestling, flew to Las Vegas this week to meet with Raiders officials and workout a contract. Additionally, by boosting the base value of Jacobs’ deal and not just adding incentives, a potential second franchise tag in 2024 would become far more costly and could potentially exceed $14 million.
For now, Jacobs is staying put in Las Vegas.
