Former Auburn University assistant coach, and NBA player, Chuck Person has avoided prison time in the college bribery scandal that has impacted a number of schools, including some of the biggest, in college basketball.
Prosecutors say Person accepted $91,500 in bribes to steer top players to a government cooperator posing as a financial adviser, and although sentencing guidelines called for Person to serve two years in prison, three other coaches who pleaded guilty to the same charge as Person received leniency.
Judge Loretta A. Preska stated that “no purpose would be served by incarceration.”
Person was formally sentenced on Wednesday to community service during two years of supervised release.
